Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is a foundation for physical, mental and emotional healing. It is also my biggest
tool in battling our biggest obstacles of today - repetitive motion injuries and stress.
Repetitive Motion Injuries is the technical term for what causes many common ailments - Carpal Tunnel, Lower Back and Neck Pain. For most people, the day consists of driving to work, sitting at a computer all day, and driving home. In all three cases, our focus is directly ahead of us, with our body held in the same static position doing the same small, repetitive motions. Whether it is moving the steering wheel or navigating the computer mouse, our body is making the same small motions over and over again. These motions cause the muscles to tighten up, restrict blood flow to the muscles, and cause knots in the muscles. These knots lead to shoulder pain, neck pain and wrist pain - which lead, in turn, to carpal tunnel and head aches. Massage manually moves these muscles, causing blood to flow into the muscles again, relaxing them back to their normal state, relieving tightness and pain.
Stress, unfortunately, is found everywhere in our lives. Whether it is the report due at work, our children's issues at school, or the car repair that needs done, we seem to find stress around every bend. Learning how to deal with stress, letting things roll of our shoulders, is a life long process. Learning how to deal with stress, letting things roll of our shoulders, is a life long process. In the mean time, stress causes our bodies to move into fight or flight mode. When our bodies are in fight or flight mode, it is releasing strong chemicals into our system, preparing us in its primitive nature, to fight the bear. We are no longer fighting bears in today’s day and age, but our bodies still react as if we are. These strong chemicals were meant for short term use, not the 24-7 we are stressing out. Through relaxing, we lower blood pressure, create emotional balance, and allow our body to absorb the nutrients needed for our system to function. Massage helps move the body out of fight or flight mode, easing it into rest and digest mode. Just an hour of down time a month can make a world of difference to our bodies by teaching the body HOW to relax.
What types of massage?
I use a combination of Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Neuromuscular techniques to accomplish the needs of the client.
- Swedish, a flowing light to medium pressure massage is used for relaxation.
- Deep Tissue, a firmer massage, is used for general tight muscles.
- Neuromuscular massage is a technique used for specific muscles pain or trouble spots like head aches, shoulder and neck pain, or lower back pain. Neuromuscular can be intense sometimes, but the benefits are worth it.
“I believe a massage should be a revitalizing and relaxing experience — and Heather consistently delivers against that expectation! Her knowledge, and application, of a variety of techniques ensure that I always leave feeling much better than when I arrived.” ~Laura, Lakewood, CO - Client of 6 Years.
